| The Crossroads celebrates 50 years of recovery |
|
In March of 1982 the Crossroads acquired “Turning Point Home for Women” a financially unstable facility that housed women in recovery since the mid 1960’s. After renovations the facility housed 30 women until the move to the new 60 bed Crossroads for Women in May 2007. Also on December 21, 1982 the Crossroads for Men - Squaw Peak was completely destroyed by fire. The following morning there were tents in the parking lot, tables full of food and temporary housing for the residents. The daily fellowship meetings continued and each brought donations of food and necessary supplies to keep the facility functioning until the new building was completed in 1987. Secretary of State Rose Mofford hosted the Grand Opening Dedication also attended by Phoenix Mayor Terry Goddard. The Crossroads expanded it services to the west valley in 2003 with the grand opening of Crossroads for Men – West on 7523 N 35th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85051. The Arizona Board of Behavioral Health licensed facility houses 50 men and hosts over 40 recovery meetings per week. During a Crossroads Board Retreat in February of 2006 a decision was made to open a new facility for women. Within 14 months the facility was bought, renovated and debt free and the women of Crossroads moved into a new 60 bed facility. The facility hosts over 20 recovery meetings a week and is supported by a tremendous group of women from the community. The former Crossroads for Women Facility was converted to a 33 bed men’s facility and houses the “Crossroads Meth Pilot Program”. The program continues to be a success story in the housing of meth addicts and allowing them to reenter society as useful productive men. As the Crossroads enters the next 50 years in the Valley exciting opportunities are on the horizon. We look forward to the continued support of the community as we address the issue of addiction and help the next 22,000 individuals that choose to begin their journey in recovery at The Crossroads. |
